Everything in the Bible is true, and happened just the way the Bible says. We can’t see God, but the Bible shows us what He’s like. The stories in the Bible are one of the ways God shows us how much He loves us and how we can be friends with Him. Everyone say, “The Bible is God’s story!”

The Bible tells us that God wants us to obey Him. He gives people a choice whether we will obey Him or not. When God first created people, He named the first man Adam. God let Adam live in a special garden called Eden. But God saw that Adam was lonely. So God created woman to help Adam. Her name was Eve.

God was friends with Adam and Eve. They spent time together every day and talked to each other, just like we do with our friends. God gave Adam and Eve one important rule: They could not eat the fruit from one special tree in the garden. God told them they would die if they ate it.

One day, a snake told Eve she should eat the fruit from God’s special tree. He told Eve that what God said wasn’t true. Eve believed the snake’s lies. She ate the fruit. Eve gave the fruit to Adam, and he ate some of it, too. They both knew they had disobeyed God. They felt bad inside for doing it.

They hid from God because they were ashamed of what they had done. They had messed up their friendship with God. Adam and Eve couldn’t be in the garden with God anymore. They made a bad choice. When we choose to disobey God, that’s called sin. God won’t come close to sin because He is perfect and holy. God had to punish their sin just like He had said. Their friendship with God was dead.

We know this happened because the Bible says so in the book of Genesis. This story shows that God loves us and wants to be friends with us. But He gives us a choice to love Him back or not. He wants us to obey. When we sin, we mess up our friendship with God.
